Liverpool FC status

Trolig startelva (4-3-3): Alisson Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Gomez, Robertson – Fabinho, Elliot, Henderson- Salah, Mané, Diaz

Brighton status

  1. Brighton started this season really good but has now lost four games in a row and is currently 13th in the league. What are the main reasons for your results lately?
The first of those four defeats was a totally undeserved defeat at Old Trafford and it feels like that match broke us a little morale-wise. Then Dunk served a suspension after that match, Webster – who has probably been our best and most important defender over the last two seasons – has been out, and too many players have dropped form. We’re still maintaining high possession stats but have gone back to our old ways of not looking like scoring. Maybe a little bad timing too in that we played Burnley and Newcastle in the middle of their purple patches. Talking of Newcastle, it perhaps also shows that we are missing Dan Burn more than we thought we might.

  2. Has Graham Potter changed anything in the way you play this season?
No, it’s generally been the same as last season, for better or worse. He has reverted to a flat back four at times because of lack of availability of our centre backs for various reasons. But generally still looking for the wing backs to push forward and lots of movement and change of positions at the front. Unfortunately what has also not changed is the lack of goals.

  3. Which players have impressed you the most att Brighton this season?
Aside from Webster, the two stand-out players for me have been the wing-backs Lamptey and Cucurella. We knew about Lamptey already of course but there was always the question mark of how he would come back from his long-term injury – and he has simply carried on where he left off. Cucurella has walked straight into the team and made himself irreplacable, bombing up and down the left, as good in defence as supporting the attack and even filling in as centre back.

  4. You have lost both White and Burn to other Premier League clubs in the past transfer windows, how has that affected the team?
I don’t think White has been particularly missed. Webster and Dunk were better anyway and Duffy came in to start the season well. But selling Burn – although probably the right move for club and player – feels like a blow right now as we are so short-staffed in the centre back positions as soon as we have an injury or suspension, particularly in terms of a specialist left-footer.

  5. What are your expectations on the final part of the season?
We are still well set to beat our PL points record of 41 and best position of 15th and so any improvement on them will be positive. But considering that we were top 10 till last week, it will feel like a bit of an anti-climax if we only scrape eg a 14th place finish.

  6. What kind of game do you expect against Liverpool?
I think we’ll play the way we always do – very positively, looking to keep the ball and attack from all areas. But no doubt for all the prettiness we will create few chances, miss those we do create, and then you will punish us on the break.
