LFC-ikonen har tröttnat på Lovrens återkommande misstag: ”He wants to fight everyone he plays against.”

Dejan Lovren har varit en kontroversiell figur i Liverpool sedan han anlände från Southampton under 2014 års transferfönster. Den numera 30-årige kroaten har varvat stormatcher med regelbundna misstag, som i synnerhet när laget har haft tyngre perioder har väckt stor frustration bland många utomstående betraktare.

Den här säsongen har laget som bekant gått som tåget i Premier League, men i den enda förlustmatchen mot Watford råkade dessvärre tåget ut för ett oväntat problem – eller ”signalfel” – som man brukar säga i Stockholm.

En som var nöjd efter matchen var Troy Deeney. Den fysiskt starka anfallaren gjorde ingen hemlighet av att han sökte upp Dejan Lovren i matchen: ”van Dijk is a class act and, for me, is probably in the top five defenders in the world. It is tough to get anything from him; he is 6ft 6ins, fast and strong, so you try to pick on the weaker of the two.  I don’t want to be disrespectful to Lovren and say he is the weaker of the two but I knew he wanted to fight me as well, and that is my game, so if you want to try and fight me you are going to have to be in for a tough night. He did that for the first goal, trying to fight me for the throw-in and then I obviously rolled him and we scored. He is trying to fight me instead of watching the ball and we scored,” sa Deeney till Sky Sports efter matchen.

Deeney gjorde alltså ingen hemlighet av att Lovren var den av Liverpools mittbackar som han ville stångas med, vilket ju är naturligt när van Dijk är alternativet. Samtidigt är Deeney inne på ett intressant spår kring Lovrens spel, och det är att kroaten har en tendens att inte kunna värdera situationer på ett bra sätt; när han ska spela passivt och när han ska gå in i dueller. Istället går Lovren alltid in i duellerna.

Lovrens tendens att inte hålla huvudet kallt kritiseras också av Jamie Carragher: ”I’ve watched Lovren in a Liverpool shirt for so long making the same mistake”, sa Carragher till Maych X Pajak Podcast och fortsatte: ”He wants to fight everyone he plays against. Harry Kane started this season and stands on Lovren, just uses his body and knocks him out the way. He’s 28, he should have learnt by now. There’s no problem letting Deeney bring the ball down .”

Carragher har visserligen fel på Lovrens ålder – han är 30 och inte 28 – men visst har både han och Deeney en poäng i sina kommentarer om Lovren.
