Det har ju varit otroligt mycket snack om att Liverpools ekonomi skulle mer eller mindre kollapsa på grund av uttåget i Champions league.

Inget kunde vara mer fel, eftersom tredjeplaceringen i CL-gruppen innebär att Liverpool är kvalificerade till Europa League.

Europa League kan också inbringa stora pengar om man går långt.

Simon Chadwick, professor i sport business på Coventry University, har kalkylerat över hur de olika cuperna påverkar Liverpools ekonomi.

Liverpool kommer att få 15 miljoner euro för CL-gruppspelet, och dessutom kan ännu mer stålar vänta om man gör bra ifrån sig i Europa League.

“Liverpool, on top of the 15m euros they are going to get, could have earned another 20m euros”, sa Chadwick.

“Obviously, that calculation is predicated on getting to the final, but simply by playing your two games in the last 16, you are looking at around 3m euro. What they can do is offset some of the damage to their commercial activity if they can get to the final of the Europa League.”
