De allra flesta som var insatta trodde att Liverpools reservlagsmålvakt Dean Bouzanis skulle bli Australiens andraval i U20-VM. Så blir dock inte fallet.

Australiens coach Jan Versleijen säger offentligt att Bouzanis kommer att vara hans förstaval mellan stolparna.

Andrew Redmayne, som startade åtta av lagets nio kvalmatcher, förpassas alltså på bänken. Det gör även Alex Cisak, som precis som Bouzanis är ungdomsproffs i England.

”It was a very difficult decision, I don’t exaggerate if I say this was one of my most difficult decisions probably for the last 10 years,” sa Versleijen i en kommentar till  media angående målvaktsvalet.

”It’s not making a decision between goalkeepers with a big difference in level because all the three goalkeepers we have I’m comfortable with.”

”More difficult was not to choose for Andrew Redmayne, because from the start in the campaign he was the first goalkeeper and he really helped us to be in Egypt, he helped us a lot, he was a big part in qualifying for the World Cup.

”At the end, you have to make a choice and my choice is based on the experience from Bouzanis playing on a higher level and also the last period before the World Cup, he had a little bit more game experience and that is probably the most important part.”
